Vacuum Processing is a key technology in manufacturing reflective layer systems. Surface treatment for cleaning and activation is nearly always part of processing. Reflective layers are deposited from pure metals and they are sealed by protective layers applying vacuum or plasma processing.
At Otec there are several technological facilities for thermal evaporation, magnetron sputtering or plasma polymerization available. Selection of technologies follows the specific characteristics of the target product (material, shape, application).
Aluminium reflector surfaces are chemically polished by Erftwerk Technology. The subsequent anodizing step provides a thin and very stable protection layer of aluminium oxide.
By adjusting process parameters and especially by using different aluminium alloys chemical polishing can be affected in a way that individual surface images (matt and high gloss) can be achieved.
